Every Sawan, the highways of Delhi and its neighbouring states fill with saffron as millions of kanwariyas walk home carrying Ganga jal for Lord Shiva. If you have ever wished to be part of that great river of devotion but cannot walk the road yourself, there is a beautiful way to still serve: donate for Kanwar seva. This is a practical, honest guide on how to donate for the kanwariyas — by UPI, by bank transfer, or in kind — so that your gift reaches a tired bhakt as a warm meal, a dry place to rest, or medicine for a blistered foot.
Our Shiv Kavar Samiti has run a free sewa shivir at Mahipalpur, on NH-8 in New Delhi, for over thirty years. The shivir opens through the busiest stretch of the yatra and serves thousands of Shiv bhakts round the clock. Everything given here — langar, shelter, water, first aid — is offered free to the kanwariyas. It is your donation for Kanwar seva that keeps those doors open.
Why donate during Sawan?
The Kanwar Yatra is one of the hardest acts of faith a person can undertake. Many kanwariyas walk barefoot for hundreds of kilometres in the monsoon heat, fasting on simple sattvic food, keeping their kanwar off the ground the entire way. By the time they reach Mahipalpur, they are exhausted, footsore and often out of supplies. The need is real and it is immediate: hot bhojan, clean water, a shaded place to lie down, and a medic to dress a wound.
A sewa shivir cannot run on goodwill alone. Feeding thousands of bhakts a day, night after night, needs ration, gas, tents, mats, medicines and clean water in large quantities. When you donate for the kanwar yatra, you are not funding an event — you are directly buying the atta, the dal, the tea, the bandages and the shelter that a bhakt will use within hours. That is why giving during Sawan carries such weight: the gift is used at once, in front of you, for someone who truly needs it.
Donate by UPI (fastest way)
For most people the quickest way to donate for Kanwar seva is UPI. You can pay in seconds from any UPI app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM or your bank's own app.
- 🔱UPI ID: 9818908237@ptyes — enter this as the payee in any UPI app.
- 🔱Or simply scan the QR code shown on our Donate page and pay directly.
- 🔱Any amount is welcome — there is no minimum. Give what your heart allows.
- 🔱Add a short note like "Kanwar Seva" in the payment remarks so we can thank you.
Donate by bank transfer (NEFT / IMPS)
If you would rather send a larger amount, or you prefer a bank record, you can transfer by NEFT, IMPS or RTGS to the samiti's account at Punjab National Bank. Add the exact current account number, IFSC and account name shown on our Donate page before you send, and please double-check the details in your banking app so the transfer reaches us correctly.
Bank transfer is well suited to families, shops, and businesses who wish to sponsor a full day of langar or a larger share of the shivir's supplies. Once your transfer is done, send us a quick message on WhatsApp so we can confirm it and keep you updated on how it was used.
Donate in kind (ration, tents & medical supplies)
Not every gift has to be money. Some of the most useful donations arrive as goods, ready to be handed straight to the bhakts. If you run a shop or wholesale business, in-kind giving lets you serve directly from your own stock.
- 🔱Ration: atta, rice, dal, cooking oil, sugar, tea leaves, salt and spices for the langar kitchen.
- 🔱Water & refreshment: sealed drinking water, glucose, ORS, buttermilk and fruit.
- 🔱Shelter: tents, tarpaulins, mats, durries and blankets so bhakts can rest.
- 🔱Medical: first-aid kits, pain-relief spray, antiseptic, bandages, foot-care ointment and electrolytes.
- 🔱Kanwar stands and simple wooden supports so the kanwar never touches the ground.
If you would like to give in kind, message us first on WhatsApp. We will tell you what is most needed that week and where to send or drop the supplies, so nothing goes to waste and everything reaches a bhakt.
What your donation sponsors
People often ask what a specific amount actually does at the shivir. There is no fixed price on seva, and any amount helps, but here is a simple guide to what different contributions can sponsor during Sawan:
- 🔱₹1,100 — a meal (bhojan) for many tired bhakts.
- 🔱₹5,100 — a full day of langar, feeding a stream of kanwariyas through day and night.
- 🔱₹11,000 — shelter and medical support: tents, mats and a stocked first-aid station.
- 🔱Any amount — every rupee is put straight to use; nothing is too small an offering to Bhole.
Serve every bhakt as you would serve Bhole Nath himself — for in that month, they carry him on their shoulders.
Run by volunteers — 100% reaches the bhakts
The shivir is run entirely by volunteers from our family and community. No one draws a salary from your donation. This means the money you give for Kanwar seva goes fully into the seva itself — the food, the shelter, the water and the medicine that a kanwariya uses on the road. When you donate, you are simply putting a meal or a resting place into the hands of a bhakt, with nothing lost along the way.
Because it is a volunteer effort built on trust, we take that trust seriously. We are always glad to tell a donor how their contribution was used, and we welcome you to visit the shivir at Mahipalpur during Sawan to see the seva with your own eyes.
How to confirm your donation
After you give — whether by UPI, bank transfer or in kind — please send us a short message on WhatsApp so we can confirm we received it and thank you personally. A quick message with the amount and the date is enough.
- 🔱WhatsApp: +91 98189 08237 — send your name, the amount, and the date of your gift.
- 🔱For UPI, a screenshot of the successful payment helps us match it quickly.
- 🔱For in-kind gifts, message us before sending so we can confirm what is needed and where.
A note on 80G tax exemption: donors sometimes ask whether their gift is eligible for a deduction under Section 80G. Please confirm the samiti's current 80G status directly with us before you give, rather than assuming it — we would rather be honest than promise something we cannot be sure of at the moment you donate. Message us on the same WhatsApp number and we will tell you plainly where things stand.
